And, about 33 per cent claimed that they were waiting for over £1,000 from customers for completed jobs.

It is estimated that nearly two-thirds of traders have had payments withheld by customers. Also, these people face payment withhold issues twice a year. Further, one in ten tradesperson experience withheld payments more than five times a year.

However, only six per cent of traders are happy with timely payments by customers. In the survey it was found that the plumbers deal with payment problems the most while the landscapers experienced the fewest such issues.

Majority of UK Homes Not Suitable For a Heat Pump

Majority of UK Homes Not Suitable for a heat pump: This might be surprising but this is really true. Here’s all you need to know!

Are you planning to install a heat pump in your home?

If yes, then make sure you are using another heating method with a heat pump.

According to the Energy and Utilities Alliance (EUA) report, installing heat pumps alone will not solve the domestic heat decarbonisation issue of the UK. Therefore, you need to take support of other heating options like a hydrogen gas network. This helps to achieve a net-zero target of UK by 2050

According to the report, there are a lot of challenges of retro-fitting different types of low carbon heating technologies. This is due to the availability of different sizes, building age, and customer acceptance to these solutions.

Moreover, it is also estimated that to achieve the net-zero target, energy efficiency solutions are a must. But, some measures that support heat pumps are intrusive to install and not acceptable by energy customers. In addition to examining building material and age, it is also important to consider the internal system for installing heat pumps and hydrogen boilers.

What Does Stats Say?

About 54 per cent of homes in the UK use gas due to the lack of exterior space and unique thermal properties of buildings. In this case, the heat pump cannot meet the requirements of the property. To make heat pump effective, homeowners in the UK should opt for solid wall insulation, which may cost them more.

In the end, it is concluded that the mean heat pumps are a good solution for very few properties. So, you also need to consider hydrogen, biogas and other hybrid systems to support the net-zero ambition by 2050.

Call for skilled trade persons who are expert in installing heat pumps and other hybrid systems. This will save you money on utility bills and protect your property from potential harm.

A Quick Overview of Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rental Industry

A Quick Overview of Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rental Industry

By 1 April 2021, residents with specified tenancy should have an ECIR or Electrical Installation Condition Report. However, due to the pandemic, the landlords and letting agents are facing issues related to compliance. The issues were worsened by the National Lockdown imposed on 4 January 2021

Meaning of Electrical Safety Standards in Private Rental Industry

As per the regulations, every resident with electrical installation should be thoroughly inspected. They should be tested within a time interval of not more than 5 years.

If the EICR seems unsatisfactory, it will be important to complete the remedial and future investigation within 28 days of the report.

EICR is categorized into Unsatisfactory and Satisfactory. An Unsatisfactory EICR has the observation codes C1, C2, and/or Future Investigation (FI). In addition, iIt means that an electric danger is present or a follow-up might be needed to rule it out.

Satisfactory EICR has only one observation code and this is C3. It is rendered if the installation safety can be improved by updating the electrical installation.

The electrical installation is not unsafe. No such rectification of C3 observation is necessary for the landlord. However, they can surely choose to do so.

In addition, the regulations for Electrical Safety Standards in the Private Rental Industry were initiated in January 2020. With the lockdown and Covid19 pandemic, it became too challenging to comply with these regulations.

However, the government made sure that all necessary steps are taken to retain the electric safety of private rented homes.

The government mentioned in the 2021 National Lockdown that people who are not able to work from home can go to their respective sites for the same.

It signified that the electrical contractors could visit the sites for electrical inspection, installation, testing, and related tasks. Moreover, the government came up with guidance for local authorities on the enforcement of standards in rented properties as per electrical safety regulations.

The UK’s Net-Zero 2050 Target: All You Need to Know

In June month of 2019, the parliament passed legislation where the government must lessen the UK’s net greenhouse transmission by 100% relative to the levels of 1990 by the year 2050.

In June month of 2019, the parliament passed legislation where the government must lessen the UK’s net greenhouse transmission by 100% relative to the levels of 1990 by the year 2050.

With this step, the UK will be a ‘net zero’ emitter. Let’s comprehend more about it in detail.

What is the UK’s Net-Zero 2050 Target?

Net-zero stands for a balance between the production as well as the removal of greenhouse gases from the atmosphere.

Now, net-zero can be achieved by two processes. First, the existing emission has to be reduced. Second, the greenhouse gases should be removed actively.

What are the UK’s greenhouse gas emissions?

As per the climate change act 2008, there are six major greenhouse gases viz, carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, hydrofluorocarbons, perfluorocarbons, and hexafluoride.

These greenhouse gases come through different means like coal power stations, industrial processes, and waste management.

Summing it all up, In 2018, these gases contributed to 19% of the UK emissions.

What is the significance of net-zero?

As per the net-zero 2050 target, the government is trying to reach net-zero on all greenhouse gases by the year 2050. By doing so, UK will be successful in staying committed to the 2016 Paris agreement. As per the agreement, the country should keep global warming under 2 degrees.

Apart from that, the UK comprehends its role in the industrial revolution. They also recognize that climate change is a threat. Hence, they consider it as their moral responsibility to be the leaders for rendering international efforts against climate change.

Is the 2050 net-zero target feasible?

The CCC states that the net-zero target is a feasible yet challenging step for the UK. That’s because a lot of sectors (energy supply, transportation, business, and residential) will be affected by the same. Also, it will be difficult, costly, and time-consuming.

In the progress report of July 2019, the policy action of the UK government was not as much as necessary for a net-zero target. They are failing to meet the pre-existing carbon budgets the government outlined before the target of net-zero.

Efforts like this, paired with the UK’s goal to become Saudi Arabia of wind power, certainly will lead the country towards reduced carbon footprints.
